Mama Sue needs your help

My mom is finally getting around to painting the front door of our house. It's Georgian out front - very traditional. The problem is they just moved from a VERY modern house in California. Mom is still clinging to modern and is making a great effort to make it fit in this house - if you ask me she has shoving a square peg in a round hole.

We've polled the neighbors, family members, home teachers on the door and everyone is split. What do you guys think?

White trim around the door, sides, and window:

Or white trim around the door, sides, window, and lower panel:

Mom is begging for opinions.

My vote is in: I like the white around the door, sides, window and lower panel!

Amen about the square peg sista! Those Eichlers are definitely unique and very cool homes, SO they are hard to replicate... (especially your parents' and all that they did to it!)
Mine and Jared's vote from the pictures: Option 1, no border on the lower panel. Kind of the less is more notion I think... ;)

Less is never more. More is more. I like the panel painted too. Although I was split for a while so either will work great! :)

My vote is to paint the lower panel. I like how it pops it out a bit. But never take the word of a non-home-owner, what experience could I possibly have in such decisions?

:< ouch! I still think you can over-do things and some things need editing, hence less is more in some cases. But, to each his(or her) own. ;>
And who knows, maybe I'll change my mind when I see it for real... Good luck mama Sue!!

I agree with Lauren. Less is more. But I also think the white is a bit to bright too. Maybe a light gray or creamish color would mesh the two different styles better. But maybe that's just me.

I like the top panel only. I don't know why, I just do! But either one will look good.

I like the one with the lower panel painted white. Either way though, it's going to look great!

I think the black bottom looks traditional and the white bottom looks art deco.

My vote is to not paint the lower panel.

Oh man. I like them both! When I looked at the picture up close though, I think I like the painted lower panel better. I'm kinda OCD about symmetry though, so maybe that's it? :)
